Turning 15 on the Road to Freedom is a one-woman performance, based upon the book by Lynda Blackmon Lowery, adapted and directed by Ally Sheedy. The current run features the incredible Damaras Obi as Lynda.
The play tells the moving, true story of Lynda Blackmon, one of the youngest participants in the Selma to Montgomery march in 1965. Jailed nine times before her fifteenth birthday, Lowery fought alongside Martin Luther King, Jr. to secure the right to vote for African-Americans.
Ally Sheedy (The Breakfast Club, High Art, Psych) adapted the multiple award-winning memoir by Lynda Blackmon Lowery (Dial Press, 2015) and directed the powerful young actress, Damaras Obi, at Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School for Music, Art and the Performing Arts. Since then the show has moved and inspired audiences nationwide, in upstate New York, New York City and Los Angeles.
In preparation for the expanded national run I was brought on board to create and manage the production of posters, flyers, programs & other digital assets including the landing page. It has been an honor to participate in the success of this important project.
